Heavy rain disturbs flights as Karachi Airport struggles to cope

Heavy rain and persistent rainfall in Karachi have severely disturbed the city’s aircraft operations, bringing them to stop on Tuesday with widespread cancellations and delays due to stormy weather conditions.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) canceled flights PK-310/311 on the Karachi-Quetta and PK-308/309 route on Karachi Islamabad due to unfavorable weather. Lahore-Karachi Flight PK-305 was delayed at Lahore Airport and will start as conditions improve.

Delays were reported on the Karachi-Najaf flights PK-109/110, with Karachi departures re-planned to 1 p.m. 22.30, and PK-370 to Islamabad, expected to leave at 1 p.m. 21.30, both delayed due to passengers.

International flights PK-731 to Jeddah and PK-843 to Madinah was also expected to meet delays. In addition, the early morning Karachi-Islamabad aircraft PK-300/301 were canceled.

Overall, eight aircraft were canceled and 20 others delayed in the middle of continuous rainfall in Karachi. Flights arriving from Skardu and Dubai could not land, with PK-456 redirected to Sukkur Airport and Dubai’s FZ-335 flight to Multan.

Several Karachi Islamabad flights experienced delays, while Jeddah, Dubai, Dubai, Sharjah, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Colombo also faced schedule disorders.

Two domestic Pia aircraft between Karachi and Quetta, Karachi and Islamabad and two SUKKUR aircraft were canceled. Private carriers also suspended two Karachi-Dubai aircraft.

Private airline operations were also disturbed. A quiet airline flight also tried two landings in Karachi in the middle of severe weather, but was forced to interrupt and return to Islamabad. Passengers have been asked to monitor flight updates close as the city is fighting severe weather affecting air travel.
