Indiana Fever -star Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the 2025 WNBA season after suffering a right knee injury Sunday against Connecticut Sun.
Cunningham was to be helped from the field in the second quarter after the sun’s Bria Hartley tumbled into her right leg. Cunningham immediately grabbed her knees as she remained on the hardwood. After being assessed by teachers, she was helped in the dressing room.
The fever announced on Tuesday that Cunningham is expected to make a full recovery, though they did not specify the exact nature of the damage.

Cunningham was injured while stepping up to give extra defense in the paint. When Hartley turned the ball over to Lexie Hull, she lost her foot and fell directly into Cunningham’s right leg.
In a similar move, the fever signed the Guy Shey Peddy for a seven-day difficulty contract and released the Guard Kyra Lambert.

Cunningham’s sister, Lindsey, called Wnba out and claimed that officials have not protected players adequately.
“@Wnba Maybe you need to focus less on fine players for commenting on your poor official and more about hiring officials capable of calling a consistent game and protecting your athletes. Pathetic. Pray for you, @sophaller,” wrote Lindsey Cunningham on X.
Indiana does not seem to get away from the injury error recently, as the superstar guard Caitlin Clark stays out with a groin disorder.

On August 8, the fever also announced that guards Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald were excluded for the rest of the season. Colson tore her left ACL while McDonald suffered a broken bone in her right foot.
Cunningham is in the middle of his first season with the fever. Her popularity Skyrocket early this season in a game against the sun where she protected Clark after the superstar guard was stabbed. Cunningham was thrown out of the game for a scrub under the brace of the sun, and from there her presence on social media has grown exponentially.
While he saw lots of commitment from fans, Cunningham also launched a podcast with reality star/sports reporter West Wilson.
Cunningham played on a one year, $ 100,000 contract with the fever, making her a free agent at the end of this season.
