Peshawar:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has started the process of compensating flood victims under a special package, said adviser to Chief Minister on Information Muhammad Ali Saif.
The compensation package has doubled, he said, adding that compensation for those who lost their lives in floods was increased from RS1 million to RS2 million.
SAIF further stated that RS850 million has been released to all districts for compensation payments.
He emphasized that the provincial government is firm with the flood victims in this difficult time. He said that as more rain is expected, the public should stay away from streams and rivers and take precautions.
SAIF also advised citizens to report any inappropriate incident by calling the emergency room 1700.
Amir Muqam
The federal minister, Amir Muqam on Tuesday, delivered huge shipments of relief to the relevant authorities for its distribution among flood victims for SWAT.
Muqam met with flood victims and insured all-out support and assistance from the federal government.
He said that the rehabilitation of floods affecting the population of KP was a major challenge that expressed hope that federal and provincial governments with the support of the nation will successfully handle it quickly.
Engr Amir Muqam said that politics in the flooding situation should be avoided and that regardless of political affiliation, we have to work hard to help tackle the suffering of the affected people. He said that the Malan Mand -the division was largely influenced by the natural accident.
Engr Amir Muqam paid tribute to the spirit of communities, NGOs and philanthropists for their generosity and help in this hour’s needs. He said that floods have badly damaged farming, peach and apple plantations and communication infrastructure in Shangla, Buner, SWAT and relief to affected farmers would be provided.
Amir Muqam noted that shop owners and dealers were also a little after goods were washed away. He said the highest priority of the government was to save the stranded people, change the wounded to hospitals, and provide relief and assistance to rehabilitation of the last victim.
Engr Amir Muqam said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif personally monitored rescue and relief operations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and huge shipments of relief goods were sent to the flood-prepared areas.
