Chinese FM Wang Yi arrives at Islamabad for Three-Day Official Visit

Islamabad:

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday for a three-day official visit to invitation from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Dar received Wang Yi at Nur Khan Airbase, where senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy were also present. A group of children in traditional attire welcomed the guest of honor with flowers.

During the visit, the sixth Pakistan – China Foreign Minister’s strategic dialogue is held in Islamabad. The negotiations will be co -chair of Wang Yi and Ishaq Dar and are expected to focus on political, financial and security cooperation.

Wang Yi’s arrival comes in front of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s scheduled trip to Beijing later this month to Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, currently on a South Asian tour, previously participated in the sixth trilateral foreign minister’s dialogue in Kabul together with DPM Dar and Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the dialogue, Pakistan, China and Afghanistan confirmed their commitment to elaborate on regional cooperation and agreed to expand China – Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan.

The three sides said the expansion of CPEC would increase trade, transit and development opportunities for Afghanistan and connect it with regional markets.

In a joint statement, the ministers also promised to strengthen cooperation in combating terrorism and drug trafficking. They emphasized the importance of coordinated security efforts to stabilize the region.

The dialogue confirmed further cooperation in health, education, culture and regional connection. “We remain obliged to promote peace, development and prosperity in the region,” the statement states.
