In the wake of heavy losses in the middle of stormy rain, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has demanded that Karachi be declared a disaster-affected area and taxes are exempted.
MQM-Pakistan leader Dr. Farooq Sattar, Syed Aminul Haq, Ali Khurshidi and MPAs held a press conference at MQM’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad about the current situation in the metropolis on Wednesday.
When he spoke with the media, Sattar said the government’s obscurity has limited citizens to their homes and added the Pakistani people’s party-led provincial and city government to admit their failures. He claimed that MQM-P leadership and activists remained on the ground to help citizens who were stranded on the clogged roads for hours.
The feeling of uncertainty among citizens was to a greater extent seen during the rain form, the MQM-P leader said, adding that if a fair system is established in Karachi, it is not a big thing to maintain a proper drainage system. He questioned how long PPP will fool people in Karachi with paralyzed excuses.
Despite the provincial government, the provincial government has left the citizens of Karachi helpless resources and powers. He demanded that Karachi be declared a disaster-affected area and it was exempt from all federal and provincial taxes.
Sattar said Karachi has struggled with host of questions despite several resources that adding the city’s drainage system can withstand 400 mm of rain if drainage is cleaned correctly. He claimed that the Sindh government had collected RS22 trillion of 17 years, but it did not even use RS22. “Where is Jamaat-e-Islami and PTI throughout the situation?” He asked.
The MQM-P leader said that the emergency organization for the rain is dysfunctional despite several advisers on heavy rain in the city. The provincial government has practically separated Karachi from Sindh through its apathy to the city’s problems. He also asked about revenue received from NDMA as Rain Relief Fund.
