After a long-term marriage, four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers agreed on a one-year contract with Pittsburgh Steelers in June.
On June 7, Steelers published a photo of Rodgers signing his contract. The picture was accompanied by the heading “Performed Agreement.”
Rodgers’ move to Steel City was met with different reactions from fans and sports figures. Former New York Giant’s defense Lineman Chris Canty described the idea that Rodgers returned to something close to his MVP form in Pittsburgh as a “Hoax.”

“It’s Pittsburgh Steelers, and it’s not that close,” Canty said during a recent edition of ESPN’s “First Take,” when asked if Steelers or Bengals were facing the most question marks that came into the 2025 season. “It’s because I don’t believe in the quarterback. I just don’t. Three years.
“I don’t understand why everyone falls into Hoaxen, Aaron Rodger’s year over years. We saw it with the New York Jets … They were better off without him than they were with him.”

ESPN reported the agreement is worth $ 13.65 million and includes $ 10 million in warranties. The contract also contains incentives that can raise the total value to a maximum of $ 19.5 million, according to the report. Canty appeared far from sure that the addition of Rodgers to the schedule would “raise the floor” for Steelers.
“You’re talking about the pittsburgh steelers Being Bottom 10 in the League in Sacks Allowed Last Season. And, Oh By The Way, They Lost A 1,000-Yard Rusher in Najee Harris in Free Agency. A Guy (Who’s) Gone Over 1,200 Yard’s from Scrimmage Each of the Four Years of His Career.

This is not the first time Canty has talked about Rodgers and Steelers. During a performance at “The Pat McAfee Show” in June, Rodgers suggested that 2025 could be his last season in the NFL. He also shared his hopes of living a relatively private life when he hung up with his bricks.
Canty raised concerns about how Rodgers approached offseason and questioned whether veteran -quarterback was fully obliged to Steelers in the coming season.

“It’s the definition of self -service with the time of Aaron Rodgers that does this,” Canty said, according to steelernation.com. “Everything we heard him say on the McAfee show had nothing to do with helping Pittsburgh Steelers compete for a championship. It all had to do with him and said he will return to the love of the game.”
Steelers also confirmed that Rodgers would wear # 8 this season, the same number he wore with the New York Jets. Rodgers’ name was synonymous with No. 12 during his long period with Green Bay Packers. Terry Bradshaw bar no. 12 during his great career with Steelers.
Rodgers ended last season with 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
