Chris Farley was a good friend of Bob Odekirk who Breaking Bad Star remembers he was working with him at Chicago Improv Troupe Second City.
In a chat with PeopleThe Better call Saul Star remembered, “I wrote the motivational speaker for him, ‘Van Down by the River’ sketch.”
He continued, “In Second City he had made an improvisation with me and everyone in the role crew, and we had made an anti-Drug-rally and he played a coach who is essentially Matt Foley.”
“The night after I saw him doing that improvisation, I wrote the sketch exactly as it is done,” the actor added.
He noticed, “I have written many sketches in my life, and almost no one did not have to be rewritten. This one did not have to be rewritten.”
When I remember doing the sketch, Bob said, “To make this sketch … at Second City, every time I did, I played the dad, it was the most fun I had ever had in showbiz.”
“And the other thing that was astonishing at it was that this was other city days, right? This was before any of us were on TV. No one knew who Chris was. But at the end of the sketch – four and a half minutes later – everyone knew who Chris was,” shared the star.
