This week we had made of Google, the annual showcase, where Google is debuting its latest Pixel devices – and it served a really goodbide!
We also got some brand new streaming goodies, including Peacemaker Season 2 (after Superman, we are much more eager to see what DCU is serving today).
To catch up with all that and more, roll down for the 7 biggest tech news stories a week (spoilers: There is a good bit of google in here, but that’s no bad thing).
Kicking things with another g, Gamescom 2025 was this week, and by far the biggest announcement is that Silksong finally has a release date, and it’s just two weeks on September 4th. This author couldn’t be more excited, and taking a switch 2 with us until IFA has been transferred from a good idea to a must.
There is also a new LEGO Batman game. Legacy of the Dark Knight seems to combine elements of the most iconic Batman stories from across comics and the movies, as well as gameplay that look ripped out of Arkhamswelle -with of course a healthy doll of iconic humor LEGO titles are synonymous with.
We also got Black Ops 7 details, a look at Fallout Season 2, a Lords of the Fallen 2 Trailer, a first look at Sekiro No Defeat Animime, and a teaser for black myth: Zhong Kui – among so, so, so much more.
6. Apple TV+ became more expensive

Another day, another streaming service that wandered up its prices – and this time it’s Apple TV+. Apple’s streaming service shocked this week by raising prices for the third time in three years.
The changes had immediate effect Thursday (August 21) for new subscribers, while existing customers will see their next renewal bill jumping from $ 9.99 to $ 12.99 in the US, from £ 8.99 to £ 9.99 in the UK and from AU $ 12.99 to AU $ 15.99 in Australia.
If you are considering canceling your subscription to the back of the news, it is worth looking at ways you can avoid Apple TV+ Price hiking as you can save money by signing up for a yearly account, bundle or Apple TV+ free trial – which is important if you are an Slow horses fan!
5. Spotify stole and improved an Apple Music feature

Earlier this week, Spotify revealed a new in-app feature that allows users to transfer seamlessly between songs in new and existing playlists by pressing the ‘Mix’ button in the filter toolbar. The feature is similar to the Apple Musics Automix feature, but Spotify allows you to customize your own cross-overs.
When you activate the feature, tabs appear between each track in your playlist and select each transition. The ‘Auto’ preset will be used first, which means that Spotify automatically transfers the songs to you, but you can also choose between a selection of presets such as ‘Melt’ and ‘Wave’, or create your own transitions by playing with its volume, EQ and Effect Curves work to create a perfectly mixed playlist from start to finish.
According to Spotify’s blog post, its response to Apple Musics Automix is rolled out in Beta to ‘Eligible Premium users’, but we don’t know when it will be available to everyone paying Spotify subscribers yet.
4. We looked at Peace Taker Season 2

As another terribly written and traded rate of HBO Max Original, Peacemaker Season 2 gets more than a thumbs from us.
Set a few months after Gunn’s Superman movie, Peacemaker season 2 reunite us with Chris Smith (John Cena), also known as the eponymous anti-hero as he continues to fight with the reconciliation of his past.
It is an impressive, entertaining and surprising thoughtful continuation of its predecessor.
3. Google Pixel Buds 2A debuted

Google has launched the pixel buds 2A, also known as the new most affordable pixel earplugs. And in case you already own Pro 2, Google gave them some useful free upgrades (upcoming September) at the same time.
In addition to being the first A-Series ear plugs to get active noise reduction (as Google says, 1.5x is better than the noise-nixing you would find in the original Pixel Buds Pro), they are the smallest and lightest pixel buds to date, with Google’s silent Seal 1 to help block unwanted ambient arrow and we have given it a trial in our early pixel 2a-one.
As you would expect, they work with Google’s Gemini-But It’s good to see the latest ‘Live with Gemini’ variation of the service for real-time conversation response.
And what about Pixel Buds Pro 2 updates? There is a new color setting, Moonstone (to match the Google Pixel 10 phone area) plus a free software update for all the other perks.
From September 2025, Pixel Buds Pro 2 gets adaptive sound (Google’s takeover of adaptive noise reduction) together with high noise protection and main movement control, so you can pick up calls and respond to texts hands -free. They also get better audio treatment to use Gemini in noisy environments, live with Gemini support, plus extra messages about your battery level in the earplug case, so you will never be caught briefly.
2. Pixel Watch 4 dropped with first-in-the-beat features

While Google Pixel 10 phones were the heading attraction at the Google event this week, Pixel Watch 4 also got some attention. With features new in the Smartwatch category, such as emergency situity connection, interchangeable batteries and screens, a fully coupled screen and simple collection-to-talk access to Google Gemini, the future looks bright for Google’s Smartwatch (especially because of its 3,000-nit brightness screen). It arrived along with the announcement of a personal AI health and fitness coach that has been overwritten by Stephen Curry, although there are not too many details on this front.
1. We got new pixel telephones

As expected, we got a brand new collection of Pixel phones from Google, including Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which brought some lovely upgrades on the camera side, such as better selfie cameras and a 5x optical zoom on the base model (unheard of).
Visually, none of the four phones, including the lovely Pixel 10 Pro fold, got much of an update, but there are features that I think Pixel fans will appreciate. They all run the new Tensor G5, and of course it runs all the AI and photo help, including the camera racinger, who may be able to make a good photographer out of any of us. Add me can now add animals and your phone can now make live translation in your voice.
Still, if we had to boil it down to the two most talked about updates, it could be IP68 protection for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold (one first in the folded room) and Pixel Snap, Android’s own version of Apple’s Magsafe. All we can say is, “It’s time.”
