Karachi: The Karachi police have registered a case against Farhan Ghani, a PPP leader and chairman of Chanesar Town, who is the brother of Sindh’s local Minister of Government Saeed Ghani.

The case was filed at the Ferozabad police station about the complaint of a government employee, Hafiz Sohail, who claimed he was attacked while monitoring fiber cable work on a service road at Shahrah-E-Faisal on August 22.

The four appointed Farhan and his five employees under charges of murder trials and terrorism along with other provisions of the law.

The PPP leader and the city chairman are currently in police custody. However, police have not confirmed the arrest.

The complainant said in FIR that he is a government employee and was tasked with supervising the underground fiber cable work. He said he was present at the site when about 20 to 25 men, including Farhan, Qamar Ahmed and Shakeel, arrived in three vehicles.

The group allegedly confronted Sohail and asked him to stop the work and question whether he was allowed to dig the road, says FIR.

Sohail said he told them he had all the relevant NOCs and emphasized that the work was done with approval by all relevant authorities.

He claimed that Farhan’s men then assaulted him, pointing weapons to him with the intention of killing. He also said they led him to a nearby gas station office where he was tortured.

Meanwhile, a police arrived at the stage and saved him from the group, led him to the police station, FIR added.

In response to the report, the Minister said that his brother, together with his employees, would face the law after registration of a case against them.

In a statement that was released in the early hours of Sunday, the minister confirmed that a switch had occurred on the previous day between Farhan and Sohail.

He said Sohail had exerted his legal right by filing a four over the incident.

The minister added that Farhan and the others involved would present themselves to the authorities and dispute the case in court.

“They want to prove their innocence to court,” the minister said.
