Islamabad:
Two former archival-PML-N and PPP-have announced that they will contest the upcoming elections together. The parties will also reach other parties in the reigning coalition for wider coordination.
This message was made on Saturday after a high-level PML-N delegation consisting of federal ministers Hanif Abbasi and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry met with a senior PPP delegation on PPP leader Raja Perez Ashraf in Islamabad.
The meeting focused on strategy for election to be held in various constituencies, primarily because of the cases of a number of PTI legislators considering their beliefs in May 9, rebellion cases. Discussions included the devotion of a common plan for the election, sources said.
In a speech with the media later, Ashraf said PML-N will support PPP in constituencies, where the PPP candidate was in second place at the February 2024 parliamentary elections. “
He said this formula was completed in light of directions from the management of both parties.
When he spoke to the occasion, Hanif Abbasi said the two parties are allies in the Senate, the National Assembly and provincial assemblies. “We will jointly contest in election and secure success together,” he added.
Some political analysts believe that for PPP to regain its territory in Punjab, it will have to attract anti-PML-N voters through actual confrontation with Sharif’s party, which ironically has been PPP’s partner since Imran Khan outputs in April 2022.
PPP has supported the PML-N LED coalition government formed after February 8, 2024, parliamentary elections without becoming part of it, while it was part of the coalition government formed after the collapse of the PTI government in the wake of a vote on non-confidence.
After the parliamentary elections, where a single party could not achieve a simple majority, PPP and PML-N agreed a power sharing formula with the former who goes for constitutional positions for the president, governor of two provinces and the Senate Presidency.
