Pakistan and Iran’s military bosses have promised to intensify the efforts to eliminate terrorism and secure their common border, the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad said on Tuesday.
Chief of Army Staff (Coas) Field Marshal Asim Munir and Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, discussed security collaboration during a telephone conversation.
“In a telephone conversation held between Iranian CGSAF, May Gen Abdolrahim Mousavi and Coas, Field Marshal Asim Munir,” the two sides are ready to eradicate terrorism to secure common boundaries, “the embassy said in a statement.
According to Anadolu Agency, Coas Munir and Maj Gen Mousavi discussed the bilateral cooperation in a number of fields where the latter praises Islamabad’s support for Tehran during his 12-day war with Israel.
The conversation came about weeks after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Islamabad. The two neighbors previously agreed to protect their common border by effectively fighting terrorism.

Mousavi said, according to the Iranian state Irna news agency, that Iran is prepared to eradicate terrorism and secure its borders with Pakistan and call for joint efforts to eliminate terrorism.
When he repeated the call to ensure common boundaries, Munir said the two countries must “jointly transform the Pakistan-Iran border into a border of friendship, fraternity and economic development.”
In May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a two-day visit to Iran as part of his regional tour to friendly nations aimed at expressing gratitude for their support during the conflict with India. During the visit, he met with supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Pezeshkian.
The discussions focused on strengthening the relations between Pakistan-Iran, with special emphasis on improving trade and regional connection. Both sides also addressed wider regional issues and recognized Iran’s efforts to promote peace during the war imposed on Pakistan by India.
Earlier in August, Iranian President Massud Pezeshkian traveled to Pakistan on his first official visit since the acquisition of the office and after the 12-day war between Iran and Israel in June.

Pakistan rolled out of the red blanket to President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz personally received him at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, in a rare gesture that was not only a protocol, but Pakistan’s intention to elaborate on the ties with the neighboring country.
Pakistan and Iran agreed to increase their bilateral trade from current $ 3 billion to $ 10 billion in the negotiations between the visiting Iranian president and the prime minister, in a step suggesting the changing geostrategic dynamics that bring the two neighbors closer.
The formal conversations were held in the Prime Minister House focusing on several questions ranging from bilateral ties to current regional and international development. According to the PM office, the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting, which was followed by lectures at the delegation level.
They discussed key initiatives to increase trade, including improving quotas for rice, fruit and meat exports, activation of border markets, removal of non-customs barriers and promoting barter.
