- Developers are still struggling to get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 Development Set
- Digital Foundry reports that several studios cannot access the sets are asked to send their games on Switch and “Rely on backward compatibility”
- It is said that large AAA developers are also excluded
Even after the Sintendo Switch 2’s launch, Nintendo is reportedly still back giving Studio’s development kit.
During the latest episode of Digital Foundry’s DF Direct Weekly Podcast (via VGC), host John Linneman and Oliver Mackenzie said several developers have told them they still can’t access Switch 2 Dev kits and are told by Nintendo to focus on making original Switch games.
“There has been a lot of talk about this recently that Nintendo seems to be almost disappointing Switch 2 development to some degree,” Linneman said.
“I’ve talked to lots of developers where they were told that their games, they just had to send it on Switch 1 and trust backward compatibility.
“There are a lot of developers who are unable to get Switch 2 Dev Kits. We talked to a lot of devs on gamescom this year and so many of them said the same things. They want to send on Switch 2. They would very much like to do Switch 2 versions. They can’t get hardware. It’s really difficult right now.”

Mackenzie added that there has been talk that AAA developers were also excluded from getting set while the study of Chillin ‘by the fireA game that uses Switch 2’s camera is.
“I think they should [get more devkits out there]But I don’t really know what Nintendo’s thinking was with these sets of decisions, “said Mackenzie.” So I don’t really understand the strategy because as you said, even now now developers are struggling to get systems.
“And I know that a few months ago, when we heard things through grapes and talked to humans, some strange exclusions were with some great developers who struggled to get sets for games. And there were also some kind of weird inclusions. Some indoors were included, which is nice to see.
“But there is the campfire game you know, the camera’s campfire games, and they get sets. And some big developers, on the other side that developed AAA -Ting, is not necessarily in pipeline there for sets.”
This has been an ongoing problem since before Switch 2 was launched, with developers from a wide range of studios who said they were “desperate” after getting their hands on Dev kits (via the gaming industry).
Elsewhere, the next Nintendo Direct Showcase is allegedly aired next month, just in time to Super Mario Bros.’40 -year anniversary.
