Power consumers across the country are likely to receive RS1.69 per year. Relief of devices in their September bills during the monthly fuel charges (FCA), reported Express News.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) SINDH MEMBER RAFIQ Sheikh reviewed the central Power Calcing Agency’s (CPPA-G) request which, if approved, would give RS23 billion relief to consumers.

However, the reduction will only apply for one month and exclude lifeline, protected, prepaid consumers and charging stations with electric vehicle.

During the session, Nepra expressed strong dissatisfaction with the increase in electrocution events during the heavy rain of Juli. The authority noted that 11 people lost their lives in a single month due to accidents, including six deaths in Islamabad Electric Supply Company’s (IESCO) region alone.

Sheikh warned to impose maximum sanctions for distribution companies. However, he regretted that utilities often obtain residence orders from courts against such fines.

NEPRA confirmed that the Ministry of Energy had conveyed the financial coordination committee’s instructions to charge the same FCA from K-electric consumers so that a uniform customs policy could be maintained.

The regulator said it heard all stakeholders and will issue a detailed decision after further control of the data submitted.
