GB CM Designations RS4B Flood Aid Inadequate

Gilgit:

Gilgit-Baltist Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan on Thursday said that RS4 billion relief package announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was no longer sufficient as fresh floods after the premises’ recent visits caused further destruction throughout the region.

When he spoke at a ceremony where compensation checks were handed over to the families of flood victims, the chief minister paid tribute to the premiere’s previous visit to the GB and thanked him for announcing the emergency package. However, he added that the situation has since worsened, with several villages affected and damaged multiplied.

“The Prime Minister’s support is commendable and we are grateful for his timely announcement of RS4 billion,” the minister said.

“But after his visit, further flooding struck our community and destroyed home, bridges and livelihoods. The losses now exceed the advertised help.”

The event was also attended by federal minister of Kashmir affairs and GB engineer Amir Muqam and provincial cabinet members. Relatives of those who died in the floods received compensation control under the government’s relief measures.

Muqam, who traveled through remote valleys on foot to meet the victims earlier day, repeated the government’s solidarity with the people of GB and promised that further help would be mobilized.
