- A rumor claims that the steam deck 2 may not be here before 2028
- This, however, feels like tentative speculation for a few reasons
- However, it is entirely possible that we may be in a long wait for the Steam Deck -the sequel, but
Steam Deck 2 may not arrive until 2028, or it is the latest theory that flows down from the spine of the successor to Valve’s handheld.
Kitguru noticed that Kepler has again dropped another rumor via NeoGaf forums (there have been a few hardware-related nuggets this week), and it is a very short and non-so-sweet revelation that: “Steam Deck 2 is 2028”.
The comment came in a post that is actually about Asus ROG Xbox Ally when someone commented on buying one of them – the laptop arrives in October – weighs the prospect of valve that brought something better in the nearest (ish) future.
Kepler quickly put paid to the idea that the steam deck 2 may even be distant on the horizon. If the leaks are correct, we wait for three years for the next intake of Valve’s game laptop – with what arrives six years after the original Steam Deck debuted – but of course it is a significant significant if As I discuss next.
Analysis: Speculations drawn from AMD, not valve?
Obviously, this is just a rumor, and the nature of it – a thrown one -liner in a forum post – should give more than a short break for thought.
As Kitguru points out, Kepler has probably not used a valve contact for this info – even though we do not know that it seems to be the case. This is because Kepler primarily deals with GPU (or CPU) rumors, and so the likelihood is that they base this on information drawn from an AMD timetable – which relates to the expected chip to be used as the engine on the next steam tire.
So it makes this speculation feel a little shaker, but that said, Kepler has turned out to be one of the more reliable delicious to GPU -Info – so I wouldn’t reject this nugget out of hand in any way.
Valve is already joking to work on a steam deck 2 – which is hardly a surprise – but apparently the development path can be long. Back in 2023, a year after the steam deck was launched, the expectation was a next gene version of Valve’s handhelds did not arrive for a few years from then – which means people hoped for 2026, not 2028.
If this rumor is true, it is also indicating that Valve is planning to make Steam Deck 2 a huge boost with performance, with a very beef with – the available hardware in 2028 will of course be very beef choir. And it is in line with previous talk that suggests that the company does not want an incremental release with the successor to the steam deck, but a big step forward.
All that said I would emphasize that we should be very careful about this speculation for now.
