In the sigh of relief for retired employees, the federal government approved an increase of 15% in pensions under the employees’ age gear’s institution (EOBI) on Saturday.

When we talked to journalists, after the cabinet meeting, Minister of Overseas Pakistanis and the development of human resources said Chaudhry Salik Hussain: “Eobi pensions have been increased.”

He said Eobi pensioners will be paid, including arrears, from September 1, the minister added. Hussain said Eobi would release RS10 billion in monthly pension.

“Pensioners with long service will now be able to receive a pension of more than the RS30,000 per month,” the minister added.

He maintained that a committee had been set up to include the informal sector and house workers in Eobi. The committee would also work to include agricultural workers in the Eobi system, Hussain added.

The fresh increase in pension is beyond the 15% increase approved by the cabinet last month.

In July, the cabinet approved an increase of 15% in pensions under Eobi, which was to take effect from January 1, 2025.

Earlier this week, the Eobi National Assembly’s standing committee for overseas Pakistanis and the development of human resources insured that pensions would be released, with the minimal pension raised from RS10,000 to RS11,500 with effect from 1 January 2025 to be paid with all parties on September 1, 2025.
