Another top-10 match on Saturday night was a defensive view, but this time it was the road team that got it done when No. 9 LSU won a 17-10 win over No. 4 Clemson in South Carolina.
Offense did not come easily in this one as there were four punts, one fumble and two field goals on the first seven drives. Late in the second half, Clemson found a groove and went on a 13-play drive that ended in the game’s first touchdown. LSU responded back with a healthy driving force, but they lost a fumble of 4th and 2 from inside the red zone just before half ended.
Clemson missed a field goal on their first drive out of half, and LSU responded with a touchdown to tie things at 10am. Momentum seemed to be in LSU’s hands when they chose Cade Clubnik and Garrett Nussmeier found Zavion Thomas for a score.
Thomas, however, did not maintain control through the catch and it was controlled incomplete. Almost instantly, Damian Ramos pulled a 46-yard field attempt.

But LSU forced a three-and-out-out, and they took advantage of a touchdown drive that ended up with Nussmeier finding Trey’dez Green for the main score with 12:18 back in the game.
Clemson’s violation continued to stop as they turned the ball over on the downturns with about nine minutes to walk, but had another chance with 4:26 to go. However, each of Clubnik’s first two passports fell incomplete, and a false start supported them even more and forced them to punt.
The Clemson defense forced a three-and-out, giving Clemson another shot with 1:46 to go on their own 43 and a timeout.

They quickly entered the red zone, but on the 4th and 4 forced LSU clubnik to shorten his throw on a rollout and maintain their 17-10 victory.
Nussmeier impressed to begin his second year as a starter and completed 28 of his 38 passes in 230 yards.
Klubnik went 19-for-38 in 230 yards and their rushing was non-existent. Lead Rusher Adam Randall spoke only 16 meters on five bears, although one of them was a touchdown.
