US Open 2025: Karolina Muchova says she was emotional after watching ex on stands

Czech tennis star Karolina Muchova needed to gather against her Romanian opponent, Sorana Cîrstea in the second round of the US Open.

Mentova was down 4-1 in the second set on Thursday as she needed to briefly stop the match. She began to get emotional and admitted after the match, it was because she saw her ex-boyfriend sitting in the crowd.

She gathered to defeat Cîrstea in three sets.

“Well … It wasn’t tennis -related,” she told journalists after the match via the athletic. “So I don’t really like talking about it. But to my bench, my ex-boyfriend sat down. He sometimes appeared in places where he shouldn’t be. It frightened me a little. I asked him to leave, he didn’t, but later he went. It was hard to focus at that moment.”

Muchova had not mentioned the man of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) or the US Tennis Association (USTA) before the tournament began and has not done so after Thursday’s incident, Athletic reported.

Tennis players may request that certain spectators be blackened from ticket sales or be able to receive credentials. An alleged stalker of Emma Raducanu appeared at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February. The man was blacklisted from buying tickets to Wimbledon.

Muchova said Saturday after moving on to the 16th round that she was doing well and not reporting the person to tennis officials.

“Player safety is a critical element of our planning and execution of the US Open,” a Usta spokesman told the business. “Our comprehensive security plan includes protocols and procedures for effective risk limitation and question management. We work closely with ATP, WTA, ITF, ITIA and the other Grand Slam events to keep informed of all relevant situations and concerns.

“The US Open is in constant communication with local and federal law enforcement, which also maintains a presence in Usta Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. We use both physical and technological means throughout the event to monitor and maintain security, including online threats to players.”

Muchova went as far as the semi -finals at the US Open two consecutive years. She was ranked No. 13, entering the tournament.
