Coco Gauff’s running on the 2025 US Open has ended, and it was Naomi Osaka, the Japanese star who won the tournament in 2018 and 2020 that made it happen.

Osaka, who famously defeated Serena Williams to capture the title in 2018, played as she previously has to reach the top of the women’s singles locations and defeated Gauff in a dominant manner, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of Flushing, New York.

No. 23-ranked woman’s single player was at a roaring start, Gauff broke in the opening match and continued to roll from there.

Gauff struggled to break Osaka himself, as the latter never once faced a break point on her serving throughout the match. Gauff concluded the match with an uncharacteristic 33 unforeseen mistakes, which ultimately put her in a rut that Osaka exploited.

“I was super -locked inside,” Osaka said on the field after his match. “I felt everyone would see a really good match and I hope that’s what you got.”

Osaka approached the crowd Monday and said she was trying hard not to cry because of how much she loves to play in front of them.

“Honestly, I’m having a fun out here. I told everyone, literally, I was out here in the stands two months after the birth of my daughter and I saw Coco. I just really wanted an opportunity to get out here and play. This is my favorite court in the world and it means so much to be back here.”
