Army Copter goes down in GB; Five martyrs

Rawalpindi:

A MI-17 helicopter in Pakistan Army Aviation Corp on Monday crashed into mountainous Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region and killed all five crew members including two pilots.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the helicopter was on a routine training flight when it developed a technical error and crashed near Hudor Village, about 12 kilometers from Thakdas Cantonment in GB.

All crew members on board embraced martyrdom. They were identified as a larger ATIF pilot in command, Major Faisal-Co-Pilot, NAIB Subedar Maqbool-Fly engineer as well as crew-by-Ohangir and Naik Amir.

“Educational missions are part of routine activities in Army Aviation to maintain operational emergency preparedness to perform tasks that vary from operational support to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. The Pakistani Army remains obliged to secure emergency preparedness in all facets,” the military’s media wing said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and grief over the crash of the training helicopter. In their separate statements, the president and prime minister asked the height of the martyrs in Jannah.
