- A new report claims that AirPods Pro 3 will have two health sensors
- They could have both heart rate and temperature tracking
- But the expected live translation feature may not be ready for launch
Apple’s next launch Big Event has been announced for September 9, and we expect to see a new AirPods Pro 3 model that was revealed there, along with the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Series 11.
There has been a surprising lack of leaks about AirPods Pro 3 in the construction of the event (except for a small one about the case, teasing a change that I am not a fan of), but a new report from 9to5Mac may reveal a few interesting little things.
First, it says that AirPods Pro 3 will actually have heart sensors that have long been rumored and who seemed more likely when this technique appeared on Beats’ Powerbeats Pro 2, considering that Apple also owns beats.
But the report also says the new earplugs will include temperature sensors. This can be interesting because the ear is a great place to measure temperature and the temperature is something of a lack of element in Apple’s health tracking system.
The latest Apple Watch models starting with the Apple Watch Series 8 can detect temperature, but only in a very limited way – they can track it as a trend over time, as part of reproductive health tracking for women, but they do not include an immediate temperature reading to just check if you are running hot when you feel sick.
This is because the wrist is not a good place to track your temperature – but as I mentioned above, the ear is a pretty good.
Something we don’t expect to see this time is the long rumor addition of cameras to AirPods Pro 3, though they could be a big security gain if and when they arrive.
Non-so-living translation
The report also claims that the rumor Live Translation feature to AirPods Pro 3 will not be available at the launch and added via a software update at a later date.
This becomes more common for Apple, even with updates for iPhone’s iOS software. Apple now often announces a series of updates on its Big WWDC event, revealing all its major software changes, and then these updates fool out in a few months.
I think this is a good thing as it gives Apple time to polish things more, and a live translation feature is obviously having to work pretty well or it can lead to some awkward problems.
My bigger grip with the rumored translation feature is that it seems to be exclusive to AirPods Pro 3, although I have to assume that all treatment would be done on your iPhone so you would think it could at least work on AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 as well.
Maybe I will be surprised and that will be the case-but I suppose this feature will remain someone who separates AirPods Pro 3 from their predecessors and getting people like me who are happy long-term airpods pro 2 users to feel FOMO and will give Apple some cash.
We will find out soon enough – Apple’s event is next Tuesday, September 9, starting at 1 p.m. 10.00 pst / 13:00 EST / 18:00 BST, which is at.
