Scattered Lapsus $ hunters -a hacking collective, apparently made by the merger of three notorious cybercrime groups, has assumed responsibility for the recent cyberattack on the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
The luxury car manufacturer reported that he was suffering a cyber attack that “seriously disturbed” his production and retail activities when two plants were temporarily shut down and the employees sent home when JLR’s IT team fought with attackers and tried to regain control of compromised final points.
The group has now been seen apparently boasting the attack on telegram and sharing screens that have apparently been taken from JLR’s IT infrastructure. They also seem to crack jokes about the violation and ask “Where is my new car, Land Rover?” And similar.
Teenagers who go together
The hackers shared a few screens as evidence of their claims, which appear to show internal instructions for troubleshooting a car charging problem as well as internal computer logs.
However, Crooks did not confirm whether they actually stole any files or managed to implement any malware, and cyber criminals are often eager to exaggerate their claims.
Jaguar Land Rover is said to investigate the allegations.
Scattered lapsus $ -Hunters are a patchwork of three groups – scattered spider, lapsus $ and shinyhunters.
Each of these is notorious in their own right, being responsible for some of the largest and most disturbing ransomware attacks, data violations and malware implementations. However, it seems that they were joining forces recently, as this is now another one in a series of attacks, after Allianz Life, M&S and others.
There is very little known about miscreans. Some scientists believe they are teenagers who are likely to live in the United States or Britain. It was also said that they are trying to extort JLR for money, but these reports are unconfirmed at this time.
