- The movie in question is 2016’s Suicide Squad
- A single dialogue line in the series’ latest episode reveals why
Peacemaker Season 2 just confirmed another film from the now closed DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is officially Canon in DC Universe (DCU).
This season’s third chapter, titled ‘Another Rick up My Sleeve’, David Ayers reveals very malignant Suicide Squad Movies released in 2016 are part of DC Studios’ restarted film franchise. A single, apparently thrown line right at the start of season 2 section 3 is also all the confirmation we need.
Full spoilers immediately follow for ‘another rick up my sleeve’ and Suicide Squad.
HBO MAX SHOWS LAST POST OPERS WITH A FLASHBACK ABOUT EMILIA HARCOURT AND THE RETURN OF A MAINTER OF THE 2021’S Suicide Squad film. This film shares some similarities with Suicide SquadIncluding Margot Robbies Live-Action Charter of Harley Quinn but the films were assumed to sit independently of each other until Peacemaker‘s second season. For more about the messy nature of the DC movie timeline, read our DC movie in order guide.
But I get off-track. Season 2 section 3 reveals that before the events of Suicide SquadHarcourt had no strings tied sex with rick flag jr – and it’s this flashback scene that cement Suicide Squadplace in DCU -canon.
Midway through the couple’s conversation, a woman named June is mentioned. Harcourt says she is not happy to lie to June over her and flag JR’s secret situation, before flaging Jr jokes that June would tear a hole through the middle of the earth if she became aware of their romantic dalliance.
The DC Commerce Handle does not need more details about the importance of who June is. For anyone who is not a DC Diehard, however, it is a reference to June Moone, alias the Supervillain, more commonly known as Enchantress. To summarize his cartoonist history, Moone, a freelance artist who participates in a costume party at an old castle in his literary debut in April 1966, becomes of a powerful unity after stumbling over a secret chamber. Long story Short: She is one of the most powerful black magical practitioners operating in DC comics.
Either way, the reason why this is important is because of what we learn in Suicide Squad. According to the first act of the DCEU film, we find that flags JR and Moone are in a relationship. It is despite the fact that Moone is already enchanted that – spoiler – ends up being the big bad of the movie.
Fortunately for Moone, she is eventually freed from Enchantress ‘Strange team when flag JR crushes Enchantress’ magic heart (ie the source of her powers) with a little help from Quinn. Flag JR and Moone apparently get their happy ever after moment. Well until flag JR and Harcourt still start sleeping together behind her back.
Nevertheless, the fact that the duo is discussing Moone in the DCU Chapter One TV Show’s latest post effectively confirms events depicted in Suicide Squad is cannon in DCU.
DC Studios Co-chief James Gunn, who is also the lead author and primary director of Peacemakerdoubled down on this in the season 2 Episode 3 entrance to the official Peacemaker podcast as well, with Gunn confirms the flag we see in Suicide Squad And this Peacemaker Flashback is the same from Suicide Squad. Hence events in Suicide Squad – or at least flag JR and MOONE’s relationship – is now considered DCU cannon.
As for me, this is the case thoroughly closed for a conversation about whether Suicide SquadWhich is one of the worst-rated DC movies of all time (it has a 28% critical score on the rat Tomatoes) is part of DCU’s tales. Ayer’s original clip of the movie, which some fans have struggled to watch for years, may never see the light of day, but it is nonetheless a nice tribute from Gunn’s side to include it as part of his and Peter Safran’s new look universe.
