Only a rookie -quarterback starts week 1 this season as opposed to three last year.
It is mostly because last year’s class was widely considered one of the better quarterbacks groups when six went in the first 12 elections. This year, after Cam Ward went first, the next quarterback was taken Jaxson Dart at election # 25.
But the debate continues as to whether rookies should be thrown right into the fire of week 1, and four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski thinks they could be if necessary.

“These quarterbacks I feel like are ready to go now. Back in the day of 10, 15 years ago they didn’t really get the knowledge that they are getting this day in the college rows in football,” Gronkowski told “Fox & Friends” on Friday.
“These guys come right into these NFL organizations, and they study Playbook from day one. those who are more than they ever before. ”
However, there are exceptions like Darts that will back up the long -time veteran Russell Wilson. Michael Penix did the same with Kirk Cousins last year, just as Drake Maye with Jacoby Brissett did.

Even perennial MVP candidates like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Jalen hurt, sat behind veterans before cementing himself as some of the game’s best. Aaron Rodgers also sat notorious behind Brett Favre, and Jordan Love sat behind Rodgers.
“This one is a little different because he is behind a veteran. And when you are behind a veteran, it can actually be more effective for you in the long term in your career because you can learn from Russell Wilson. …” said Gronkowski, specifically talking about Dart.
“Jaxson Dart has a bright future but you just have to pump the brakes on him playing this year. He will have to sit behind Russell Wilson this year but he will learn a lot under [head coach Brian] Daboll and to be behind Russell Wilson. He has a bright future ahead of him. “
