The next and probably biggest, Apple event of the year happens on September 9, with the smart money being watching the launch of the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Check ours Live coverage of the last minute news, rumors and analysis of the Apple event.
If rumors are to be believed, the Pro models should at least offer remarkable upgrades compared to the last few generations of iPhone launches where Apple’s smartphones have become somewhat iterative. That said, additions like the dynamic island, action button and camera control still have combined to create some of the most consistent items on our best phone list.
I have covered Apple events and iPhones for years, so I will be your guide over the next few days as we count down to the big day. Below you will find an overview of the tilted specifications and features for the upcoming iPhones and live reporting of all leaks and rumors at the last minute, in addition to analysis from Techradar’s many telephone experts.
So let’s get into it …
iPhone 17: Cut to the hunt
- On September 9 at the Apple event, you can expect to see iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
- These could be joined by an iPhone 17 air that is tipped to be a super-slim phone with a 6.7-inch screen; It could replace the iPhone 17 Plus.
- Standard iPhone is likely to get a new chip, probably A19, and can finally get a 120Hz screen. Expect new colors, but not a radically different design.
- The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could have more significant upgrades from the A19 Bionic and a steam chamber cooling system for a new telecommunications camera and a new rear camera design as well as a new display.
- Expect new Apple Intelligence features to be launched with the phones.
- Prices probably start at $ 799 / £ 799 / AU $ 1,399 for default iPhones and $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,849 for Pro Models.
- Expect pre -orders will open on Friday, September 12 and a full release on September 19.

iPhone 17: What you need to know
Here is an overview of the most important iPhone 17 features we expect to see from the family of phones on September 9, based on the latest rumors and required leaks.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro: Design and Display
When you go for the rumors and tips so far, you can expect the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus to look a lot like their iPhone 16 borders.
There are rumors of an aluminum frame for all four next general iPhones, but I do not buy it; That would mean a departure from the titanium chassis found on pro -iphones.
A big change could come in the form of a vertical rear camera module for the iPhone 17, just like it on the Samsung Galaxy S25. This can reduce the rear footprint of the module, but would be a departure from a style that Apple has used for years.
Dummy devices, which also proclaimed this design, have a slim horizontal pill-shaped camera module for the so-called iPhone 17 air, which is expected to have the same screen size as the iPhone 16 Plus, but to be much slimmer.
In direct contrast tips the rear camera module of the iPhone 17 Pro models to be rectangular and to span the width of the phone’s bodies, with the idea that such a module could contain an upgraded camera system. A package of other dummy devices, reproductions and rumors have borrowed this, so I tend to believe that it has some legitimacy.
On the screen page, the tips have claimed that all four phones have 120Hz screens that I would welcome -a 60Hz screen feels ridiculous in 2025, even on standard iPhones.
For Pro phones, a rumor claims that the screens will use a new technology that “improves battery efficiency, maximizes the display’s durability and improves the overall performance compared to existing display technologies.”
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro: Cameras
A credible and repeated rumor that there will be a new 24MP front-facing camera for each iPhone 17 model has been running the rounds, but wider camera upgrades to the standard iPhone 17 do not look likely.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 air may have just a rear camera, although there is some debate here, with another tipster claiming the iPhone 17 air will have a 48MP main camera and a 12MP front facing.
It is likely to be business as usual for the iPhone 17 on the camera side, although Apple may have improved the sensor a bit and will probably improve the image signal processing to get more out of a head and ultra-covering camera law.
On the iPhone 17 Pro side, things look a little more interesting with both models that are tipped to get a 48-megapixel telecom camera. A tipster also claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max could have a mechanical aperture so you can adjust the depth of the field on your photos on the go; It may explain the expected camera module design change.
A jerk on the left field has Apple testing of a 200MP sensor, although there is nothing to suggest that this would be included on the iPhone 17 Pro series.
iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro: Price and Release Date
I keep this simple based on rumors and my own experience of covering iPhones.
Standard iPhone 17 is expected to start at $ 799 / £ 799 / AU $ 1,399.
IPhone 17 Plus / iPhone 17 Air could start at $ 899 / £ 899 / AU $ 1,599.
IPhone 17 Pro starts at $ 999 / £ 999 / AU $ 1,849.
IPhone 17 Pro Max will probably start at $ 1,199 / £ 1,199 / AU $ 2,149.
There is a rumor that all the new iPhones due to tariffs could be about $ 50 more expensive than their respective predecessors. I am of two minds about whether Apple will mess with an established price saddle this year.
Expect pre -orders for all iPhones will open on Friday, September 12 and a full release on September 19.
And be prepared for a variety of storage options from 128 GB to 1 TB and a blend of colors, including a punchy orange for the PRO phones.

You can expect the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max to have similar key specifications such as iPhone 16 specifications.
The iPhone 17 air could mix things up and have a thickness that measures between 5.0 mm and 6.0 mm, but so far there have not been many leaks to tease the dimensions of the rumored slim phone.
Other key specifications for the new iPhones are likely to include an A19 chip for standard and plus/air models that bring in improved performance and efficiency and probably snap answers from AI tools along with improved image signal processing.
On the Pro phone page, the chip is tipped to be the A19 Pro, which will definitely bring the same upgrades, but with more threat on the gaming side. The latter point is more weighted by the fact that steam chamber cooling is expected for the iPhone 17 Pro models, which can allow the chipset to deliver pointed performance in extended times; This would be ideal for some of the more demanding iOS games.
There is also a rumor that the iPhone 17 Pro gets 12 GB of RAM, which would be an upgrade to the 8 GB of the current Pro phones and which can enable faster response from the Apple Intelligence Tools.
Can you trust these rumors?
In general, many of the most important rumors and tips I have included in this article have more than a whiff of legitimacy for them, and I also lean on my wealth of experience to filter the more esoteric tips from those who have more weight on them.
In the live updates below you will find more analysis of these; Some quick and fast, others more nuanced.
