- Openai has turned its unpopular decision to remove standard voting mode
- It could still be replaced at some point in the future
- You can access the default voice mode by selecting Settings in Settings
It seems that hardly a week can go without Openai performing a kind of U-turn in response to an angry setback from chatgpt users. The latest U-turn from Sam Altman and Crew is warm on the heels of its decision to keep older Legacy LLM models.
Openai’s original plan was to replace standard voice mode, a basic but functional voice state, with the more interactive advanced voice state that has more options and redirects the new service as merely chatgpt voice.
As we reported, The decision has not gone very well with the chatgpt user base. It seems that many users prefer standard voting mode.
Posting at the Openai Developer Forum, a user, TZF75BPK5J, wrote: “I have been very frustrated by the advanced model for voice chat to the point I would rather have the free version. The standard is far superior to giving more human-like answers that are more relevant in content and expression.
I’m ruined
While advanced voting state allows interruptions and is generally considered more expressive, I can see why many people prefer the original standard voice state that Chatgpt offered. It’s simple, direct and talked.
Talking about retirement of default voting mode on Reddit SUDPTDIT R/Chatgpt, user Miboluo said, “I am destroyed. I have used the default voice” Cove “for over a year; it has been one of the most comforting parts of my chatgpt -experience – Calm, Neutral, consistent – expostly what I want from an AI assistant.”
“Yes, AVM is faster and allows live interruption-it is impressive. But the experience has been terrible to me: Conversations feel flat and boring (maybe because of model boundaries/nerfs), and the delivery is often over-activated some times as a melodramatic stage actor. The harder it tries to sound man, the more I am not aware that it is not;
A post on X.com by Nick Turley, VP and head of @chatgptApp, announced that Openai had decided not to remove standard voting mode:

A message on the Openai Web site reads:
“Last month we announced that everyone now has access to advanced voting state, with utility limits expanded from minutes a day to hours for free users and almost unlimited for plus. We also announced that the default voice would be retired after a 30-day sunset.”
“We’ve heard feedback that standard voice is special to many and we want to get this transition right. Standard voice will remain available while addressing some of your feedback in advanced voice. Keep an eye on, more improvements to advanced voting mode will come soon!”
Access to default voting mode
Click or press your username to access default voting mode in Chatgpt SettingsAt Then customize chatgpt. Scroll down to AdvancedChange ‘Advanced Voice’ to OFF and select Save.
Now, when you activate voice mode by tapping or clicking the icon in the outermost right side of the quick window, enter the default voice mode represented by a black circle when chatting speaks, rather than a blue orb with clouds.
It is back to see if a simpler opportunity to access it will be introduced now that it has been given a stay of execution.
