Apple opened pre-orders for its iPhone 17 series today with iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air all to get hold of. But if you are watching an upgrade, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. Apart from deciding how much storage you need, there is another important point to run: which one is the best iPhone color?
On our reliable Techradar WhatsApp channel (which you can follow for all the latest news and updates), we asked what shade of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max you should buy when pre-orders went live (as they are now). The results are in and if you are unsure what color to go for, this can run your mind once and for all.
Interestingly, the iPhone 17 voting showed two colors running the neck and neck, far in front of the hunting package. As for the iPhone 17 Pro, it wasn’t that close, but the winning margin wasn’t as convincing as you might have expected.

iPhone 17 Winner: Black
When it comes to the iPhone 17, the most popular color was the tested black with 35% of the votes. The iPhone has been available in this shade almost since it was launched and it is easy to see why it took the lead: It’s simple, refined and appeals to a wide variety of flavors.
But it did not have a commanding lead: in a very close second place with 29% was the new Mist Blue Tone.
Blue colors are often popular with iPhone users – iPhone 16’s Ultramarine was the comfortable victory in the vote we ran last year – so it’s not surprising to see that love for Azure is transferred to the latest iPhones.
Not far behind, Sage ended up in third place with 21% of the votes. Lavender and White fought for the last spots, with the former ending fourth with 9% and the latter pulled the back by 6%.
iPhone 17 Pro
With only three colors offered, there are far less choices when it comes to the iPhone 17 Pro. And the limited variation may contribute to the results where the winner enjoyed a clearer lead than we saw with the iPhone 17.
When it comes to Apple’s Pro-level phones, Deep Blue was the most well-liked option. Another phone, another popular blue tone – it seems that there is a pattern here. And with 55% of the vote, it was not a particularly competitive competition.
Second place went to the new Cosmic Orange, a total of 33% of the voting share. This is by far the coolest and most eye-catching color in the iPhone 17 Pro-Lineup-Apple told us exactly why it created the created shade in our special podcast with Greg “Joz” Joswiak and John Ternus. But that is apparently shared meaning. Still, enough people considered it attractive enough to help it to a respectable finish.
Less impressive was the scoring achieved by the final color setting, Silver. Just 12% of people chose this one and it makes a degree of meaning. White or silver options did not do well in last year’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro voting, which ended close to the bottom of the package for both phones. It looks like this is something of an running theme when it comes to iPhone colors.
