PM Shehbaz deprives August Power Bills for flooding areas

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday, all electricity distribution companies instructed to immediately stop the collection of electricity bills for August 2025 from flooded affected regions across the country, Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

The message was made during a high -level meeting called to review the situation in areas affected by recent floods. The Prime Minister noted that a comprehensive relief package for these regions would be completed after the end of ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The premiere also ordered that any August bill already paid by flooded consumers must be adjusted in the next billing cycle, giving direct financial relief to households struggling with the disaster.

“Millions of people have been displaced and influenced by these devastating floods,” said the prime minister during the meeting. “In this difficult time, we make every possible effort to ease the pain of our people.”

He added that both federal and provincial institutions remained fully mobilized in ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.

“We will not rest until each flood victim has returned to their homes,” he claimed, confirming the government’s obligation to long -term improvement.

Floods triggered by this year’s intense monsoon rain and raised rivers had killed at least 946 people in Pakistan since the end of June and had flooded large cuts of agricultural land.

Authorities said the floods had submerged over 4,500 villages and affected more than 4.4 million people in the province since the end of August. They added that at least 2.4 million people had been evacuated so far.
