Luciane Buchanan rarely reveals truth about leaving ‘The Night Agent’

Netflix’s The night agent returns without one of its central stars. Luciane Buchanan has confirmed that she will not repeat her role as Rose Larkin in the coming third season.

Buchanan contributed to Gabriel Basso’s Peter Sutherland in the first two seasons of the hit political thriller and portrayed the technological entrepreneurial-sidekick that helped the frivolous FBI agent.

“As much as that show has been so amazing, especially for my career – being a lead on an American show from Little New Zealand was such a whirlwind – the authors decided they would follow Peter and his journey based on what happened at the end of season 2,” Buchanan told Deadline.

According to PeopleSeason 2 ended with Peter and Rose, who stopped a deadly attack on the UN headquarters in New York before separating ways when Peter urged her not to visit him again.

“We don’t see what’s happening to Rose,” Buchanan said of his exit. “But I think it’s a really exciting time for the show, and who knows it’s not a goodbye forever.”

In addition, the actress revealed that she learned shortly after Season 2 premiered in January that her character would not return.

She praised the creative team for choosing not to reduce Rose’s role and add, “If it makes sense to a story I will do it. If it does not, let’s not force it.”

Showrunner Shawn Ryan repeated that mood and told The deadline, “We have always imagined the show like telling a new story every season with a rotating role crew, and the story we broke in season 3, much to our chagrin, did not have a satisfactory place for Rose.”

While Buchanan has gone on to play with Jason Momoa in Apple TV+’ Head of WarShe has not excluded a return to The night agent, “Maybe we’re making a little como along the way.”
