PTI -Senators resign all committees

Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) has formally withdrawn from all Standing Senate Committee and intensified its political liberation from the parliamentary process in protest of what it describes as a ‘constructed system’.

PTI’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, Barrister Ali Zafar, presented the resignation of parties to Senate Secretariat on Tuesday.

When he spoke outside the House of Parliament, he said the move was part of a unanimous party decision. “We have decided to retire from all Senate Committee. Today I have submitted to our senators’ resignation according to our collective decision,” he said.

The decision follows a previous directive on PTI founder Imran Khan, who reportedly instructed party-backed legislators to leave committee locations in both parliament’s houses. Last week, the PTI senators started to resign individually.

Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi stepped down from five prominent committee trading, industries and production, education, energy and inter-province coordination. Senator Azam Swati followed and withdrew from committees on cabinet, financial affairs, health, law and justice and rules and procedure.

The party had already begun to end the selection of National Assembly last month with reference to similar concerns.
