Microsoft has confirmed that it will automatically start the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows with Microsoft 365 Desktop Client apps beginning from October 2025.
However, the recent EU decisions have affected Microsoft’s decision to automatically install the AI app because devices in the EEA will not receive automatic installation.
Redmond frames the Copilot app as a centralized entry point for Genai experiences across Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more, but many users will be unhappy with the update.
Microsoft is pushing more AI on you
Users have already taken to the Internet to complain about Microsoft’s invasive approach to pushing to its AI tools -installing a brand new app that appears in the Windows Start menu and is by default enabled may be the last straw for many.
Administrators may opt out of Microsoft 365 Apps Admin Center, but the opt-in-by-default approach can be an unwelcome feature.
Earlier in 2025, a separate setting was added to allow administrators to determine the Copilot app for the Windows process line.
Although Microsoft’s AI -push is clear, it’s not a brand new app. Instead, the company explained on a support page that Microsoft 365 (Office) app has simply been redirected Microsoft 365 Copilot.
“The app is still your starting point for finding, creating, sharing and collaborating with a place with access to your preferred productivity applications,” Microsoft wrote.
“This update represents the added ways of working with copilot for tasks such as asking questions, creating content, preparation documents and construction products with a work account.”
All of this comes as the tech giant continues to fight with Windows 11 resumption. The latest us finally reached almost parity with Windows 10 in June 2025 before it overtook it in July. Since then, the two have come closer together again, which could indicate some downgrades.
