Peacemaker Season 2 star Frank Grillo has opened up on the incredibly violent interrogation scene between Rick Flag SR and John Cena’s Chris Smith.
At the forefront of HBO Max Show’s return at the end of August, I sat down with Grillo to discuss the flag of SR’s brutal beatdown of the titular anti -hero in this season’s fifth episode. Full spoilers immediately follow for season 2 so far and 2021’s Suicide Squad.

Remember, in Suicide SquadSmith murders Rick Flag Jr, but until the flag SR is made into the new leader of Argus, he does not know who is responsible for his son’s death. Once he has figured it out, flags use SR all season 2 – until this point – anyway – to try to track peace makers.
Long story short, he finally comes face to face with Smith after the latter is arrested early in ‘Back to the Suture’. After telling his Argus-placepower Sasha Bordeaux and Langston Fleury about to leave himself and Smith in a interrogation room, waste of SR, waste not time to smooth some too long-to not mention the absolute reckless penalty to the named character.
Given the level of violence shown, I was curious to learn how far everyone was willing to push this incredibly violent sequence to make sure viewers felt their full influence. As Grillo Witnesses, Section 6 Director Alethea Jones, DC Studios Co-chief James Gunn, Series Stunt team and his actor partner in Cena were all games to make it as visceral and hard hit as possible.

The dissatisfaction Grillo is talking about is the result of the flag SR stopped from pommarking Smith to submission. With Emilia Harcourt and John Economicos, who intervene in ‘Booking’ Smith – ie. Registration of his arrest – through Argus’ database, is forced flag SR to release Smith against bail.
This does not mean that the flag SR has finished Smith in DC Universe (DCU) TV show. Smith may have left his original reality for the seemingly idyllic alternative dimension he has been obsessed with, but with three episodes of the DCU Chapter One project’s latest season that is still coming, another showdown may come.
Gunn, the show’s lead author and primary director, has also suggested as much. When asked who would win a match between Smith and Flag SR about the latest rate of the official Peacemaker podcast, Gunn hinted that another match could be in the pipeline before Season 2 ends.
“You know I think – we have to leave one to fate,” Gunn said before teasing, “Because there can still be … One day we can see it”. Place your bets on whether it will happen now.
