Lahore:
The commandment to save a PML-N-linging journalist over his tasteless and derogatory remarks against Sindhi people has brought Maryam Nawaz-Turned Punjab government and the PPP-led Sindh government in odds.
The former clarified that it did not play “provincial card” – an accusation that the latter had not explicitly made through any party platform.
Journalist Rizwan Razi, who until recently was also hired in State -TV, in one of his Vlogs delivered very animated, racist and offensive remarks against Sindhi people.
His outbreak landed him for the Senate Committee for procedures for procedures and privileges, where it was recommended that his YouTube channel be blocked and he was blacklisted.
At that time he had already been terminated from PTV – a members of the Moving Committee considered inadequate. On social media, however, many users who are sympathetic to the reigning party, the committee’s insistence on action against Razi, criticized, despite his unconditional apology.
Unexpectedly, Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz also jumped into the crisis and expressed solidarity with Razi. She said Punjabis has always sacrificed for the country without promoting hatred or disagreement and praised Razi’s open apology as a sign of “high moral character”.
Maryam criticized those who spread provincial prejudice and hate opinion without accountability, while innocent Punjabis, she said, facing persecution based solely on their ID cards. She emphasized that it is important to reject hate policy and provincial departments for a stronger Pakistan.
The tale of “Persecution based on Punjab ID card”, though not related to Sindh or Razi’s unseemly remarks, seemed to be an attempt to induce sympathy for him.
PPP Central Leadership relinquished from any immediate response. According to insiders, leaders were asked to respond to Maryam Nawaz’s statement, but given the party’s newly found proximity with PML-N, they remained hesitant.
