Lahore:
Punjab Archaeology Department has launched a plan for the preservation and development of the historic Bhera Walled City. The initiative includes the preservation of ancient walls, restoration of gateways, improving the urban fabric and providing visitors-friendly facilities, while Bhera’s cultural identity and authenticity remain intact.
According to a declaration, the scheme reflects the Vision Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to associate the preservation of inheritance with cultural pride and tourismed development.
A former official from the department, Muhammad Hassan, said that Bhera is among the oldest settlements in the subcontinent, and its preservation means to revive the living culture that once flourished within its walls.
Another former director of archeology, Malik Maqsood, added that the restoration of gateways, mosques and housing clusters would not only protect heritage but also benefit society through sustainable tourism.
