Hong Kong: Hong Kong stagged after Super Typhoon Ragasa on Tuesday, the world’s most powerful tropical typhoon this year, closed schools and some companies, while most passenger flights were scheduled to be suspended later in the day until the beginning of Thursday.
Ragasa, packing of hurricane power of up to 220 km/h (137 mph), edges closer to the coast of the nearby southern Guangdong province in China, Hong Kong Observatory said.
The authorities in the financial hub are set to raise the typhoon signal to 8, its third highest, at. 14.20 (0620 GMT), which will cause most companies and transport services to shut down. About 700 flights have been interrupted.
The observatory said it will assess whether it should issue a higher warning late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
