- 2025 is the first year of a decade without new completely black action cam
- GoPro launched the MAX 2 360 camera instead and the entry level lit altogether
- GoPro says the completely black story is not over
New GoPros in September is one of Tech’s few security, but 2025 just awarded a big surprise – it will be the first year of a decade without a new completely black flagship.
Ready for the Hero 14 Black revel we received news about the new GoPro Max 2 and GoPro Lit Hero. The former 360 camera is the long-awaited successor to 2019’s Max, while the latter is an upgrade of Entry-Level Hero 2024.
We asked GoPro for comment about its Hero Black Series plans and its SVP Global Marketing and Communications, Rick Loughery, told us, told us,
“In 2025, GoPro continues with Hero 13 Black as our lead flagship camera. The speed of our technological innovation has been incredible over the past few years, and we believe Hero 13 Black remains one of the most advanced and skilled cameras on the market.
“We are focused on prioritizing the camera that our GoPro society is most eager to add their content tool set, and this year is the maximum and if 360 is not what you are after, Lit Hero also meets the need for a more traditional action camera in this year’s set -up.”
GoPro assured us that the very black story is not over. However, there could be test times rather than Action Camera King, with speculation that DJI will soon start Osmo Action 6, with a GoPro-Beating 1-inch sensor, 8K video and advanced smartwatch integration.
Is the legendary action line with actions that slow down?
GoPro set the Action CAM standards for years and delivered industrial fixture in his flagship series of Hero Black cameras. Since 2016’s Hero 5 Black, there has been a fresh model every year around September, culminating with Hero 13 Black last year.
There have been recent signs that the series is Brakes, with the last few models that bring iterative updates and use the same stabilized 4: 3 sensor for smooth 5.3k video. At the same time, fresh players have entered the stage: DJI and Insta360.
Currently, there is a tasty three -way match about the best action camera, between Gopros Hero 13 Black, DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and Insta360 ACE Pro 2.
Each brand has its own takeover of the format, and I’m actually a big fan of the latest GoPro, not least for its swapped lenses – one of Gopro’s best new features this year. Otherwise, Hero 13 Black looks like Hero 12 Black, which was also a super modest successor of the excellent Hero 11 Black.
To be clear, I don’t mind Gopro expanding Kadsen in its flagship action Cam Series launches. I feel the same about leading smartphones of Apple, Samsung and Google – do we really need a new model every year?
I’d rather go -to take his time to work on meaningful upgrades to a future model, presumably a Hero 14 Black. It just feels weird that there is no new model this year – a new whole black is something we have used to seeing every fall.
What do you think of the Gopros 2025 product launches and the absence of a new whole black flagship? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
