Microsoft has finally fixed some annoying bugs in Windows 11 that have been hanging around for a very long time – but the downside is that a fresh mistake has just appeared on desktop us.
Let’s start with the good news, which is that bleeping computer spotted is that Microsoft has squeezed two nuisance bugs. One of these relates to cameras, and it actually dates back to October 2024, which means the affected PCs have been blocked to get the 24H2 update since then.
This was a problem with webcams using facial detection features that include login via face recognition with Windows Hello. Microsoft has just resolved the error, which means that affected Windows 11 -PCs with these cameras can now download the 24H2 update.
Microsoft has also corrected a prolonged error that completely broke Bluetooth sound to some Windows 11 users -one dated back to the end of last year. Again, it was a problem with version 24h2 and those affected can only install this update right now.
Niggle here, however, is that Ghacks noted that Microsoft’s confirmation of a new error in Windows 11, where Blu-ray and DVD apps (as well as digital TV software) may fail to play protected content (with DRM).
This error was introduced in the September update to Windows 11 (and preview of the update that arrived in late August).
Microsoft explains that this Gremlin has hit apps that use the improved video -and those affected can see play fails with an error message or black screen, or they may experience “frequent playbounds” that sound less than ideal.
The software giant says it is working on providing a solution that will be piped through in a future Windows 11 update.
Analysis: Corrections for Upgrade to 24H2 only slip in before the arrival of 25h2
Hopefully the fix to the problem of playing DVDs or Blu rays in Windows 11 will not take Microsoft a year to sort out. To be fair, such delays are usually not the case, but it is taken too long to arrange both webcam and bluetooth bugs that have prevented people from getting the 24H2 update.
In fact, the people who only get access to version 24H2 get hardly the chance to grab it before the 25H2 update arrives (which is probably imminent – it may even emerge next week).
The 25H2 update is an exciting affair, where the highlight is a rejection of the start menu, which is admittedly good work, but who also come to those who remain at 24h2; In fact, in some cases, these users can get it before users of 25h2, depending on how the Rollout dice falls.
