Washington: President Donald Trump on Thursday signs an executive order that declares that an agreement being negotiated by the White House to sell Tiktok’s US operations will meet the requirements described in a 2024 law, a source of the White House with knowledge of the case.

Earlier this week, the White House said Trump will declare that an agreement to dispose of Tiktok’s US operations from his Chinese owner bytedance will meet the requirements described in a law passed by Congress prohibiting the short video app unless its Chinese owner is completed.

Trump has credited Tiktok, who has 170 million US users, helping him win re -election last year and has 15 million followers in his personal account. The White House also launched an official Tiktok account last month.

Trump has delayed the enforcement of the law through mid-December in the midst of efforts to extract Tikkok’s US assets from the global platform, quiet US investors and ensure that the new ownership qualifies as a full disposal data needed under the Chinese government adopted by the Biden administration, which requires Tikkok’s disposal of fear of its US user data.

A further extension is expected in the executive order Thursday (today).

Last week, the US president had said that business leaders Lachlan Murdoch, Larry Ellison and Michael Dell would be involved as US investors in a proposed agreement to keep Tiktok in the country.

Trump had previously said that the US and China have made progress with an agreement that requires Tiktok’s US assets to be transferred to US owners of China’s city dancing.
