- Apple Musics translation and pronunciation of texts now available for Android
- Also available in iOS 26
- Machine translation at pressing a screen
This summer, Apple added translation and karaoke features to the Apple Music IOS/iPados app, which are particularly good for songs in non-latin alphabet languages, such as J-Pop and K-Pop. And now the features have gone to the Android version of the app.
The features are called Lyric Translation and Lyric -Expression respectively, and you will find them when you press the text icon for the song you are listening to. It gives you three choices:
- Show translation that, as you would expect, shows the translated texts;
- Show pronunciation showing the phonetic pronunciation of the texts;
- And hide the original that hides the original linguistic version of the texts so you can focus on the translation or pronunciation.
Why Apple Music’s new Android features are exciting
I have been fascinated by the changing taste of global music -listening since the early 2000s, where Japanese and Korean pop in particular became hugely popular globally. For those of us who do not speak the original languages, being able to see the texts translated into our language is a really fun feature – and probably be funny because pop texts are often terrible no matter what country they originate from.
More practical these features are good for people who learn language: I know more French from Vanessa Paradis’ Pophit Joe Le Taxi and plastic Bertrands CA FLY PULL MOI than I have ever learned in a classroom because it is fun to learn through pop, and songs cling to your brain in the same way as lessons do not.
It also gives Apple an advantage over rivals like Spotify, how much of if J-Pop content is regional locked. Apple is pretty good at Global Pop, with decent discovery through his pop playlists-a member of the Techradar Team has declared Apple Music to be the “Gede” platform for J-pop now (he is young), between its far superior library and this newfound guide to song along with confidence.
Apple Music’s translation and pronunciation features are available in Apple Music on iOS/iPados 26 and version 5 of Apple Music for Android rolling out now.
