The British government says a new artificial intelligence system has helped its anti-fraud teams to get nearly £ 500 million in the past year, the largest amount ever regained for a period of 12 months.
The Cabinet Office set the overall regained between April 2024 and April 2025 at £ 480m. Of this figure, about £ 186 million was Related to fraudulent activity tied to the covid pandemic, as support schemes such as the Bounce Back Loan program were introduced at speed.
Worth up to £ 50,000 each, these loans were to help companies fighting as a result of Lockdown, but they were widely criticized for being distributed without proper control.

The BBC Report ministers now plan to put the savings in front line services such as health, education and police work.
The new AI system, called a fraud risk assessment accelerator, helped officials prevent thousands of companies with suspected loans from dissolving to avoid refund.

Cabinet Office Minister Josh Simons is expected to advertise the recovery figures at an anti-fraud CO-host of the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.
He said the government wanted to prevent “scammers and scammers” from draining public funds.
The BBC Reports that the tool, after its successful result, will be licensed internationally, with countries, including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, is expected to make use of it.
