New England Patriot’s defensive coordinator Terrell Williams was diagnosed with prostate cancer, announced head coach Mike Vabel Friday.

Williams, 51, stepped away from the team after an unforeseen health question arose after the team’s loss in week 1 to Las Vegas Raiders.

“Unfortunately, I have to tell you that Terrell Williams was determined to have prostate cancer and are in the process of treatment and meeting with specialists and finding out the best attack plan to attack this and heal it and arrange it and allow him to get back to better health,” Vrabel told journalists on Friday.

“You know how much Terrell means to me personally and to the people of this football team, so again we will send our greeting and just publicly let everyone know that what he has to do with. When he is ready to speak, he will talk on his behalf, but we would tell you what is going on.”

Williams missed the team’s rookie mini stamp this spring with a non -related health question. He was also treated for dehydration during a training camp in July.

Vrabel said that interior linebackers coach Zak cure will remain like the team’s defensive play-caller in Williams’ absence.

“We continue, as we have been with Zak Kur, who calls the defense. I feel like it went well, I think the communication throughout the week has not missed a beat at all, so I think these guys are doing a good job over there,” Vrabel said.
