Camel, tortured by landlord, undergoing major surgery

Karachi:

Chandni, the two-year-old She Camel brutally tortured by a landlord in SUKKUR for having to have been in his fields, has undergone a major operation in a shelter in Murad Memon Goth.

According to Shelter Management, a team of veterinarians successfully repaired her broken jaw by inserting rods and a supportive frame to restore it to position. During the same procedure, veterinarians also amputated her severely infected hind legs to prevent the spread of a potentially fatal infection.

The animal was administered anesthesia and severe painkillers throughout the operation.

Chandni had fought for several life-threatening injuries, including a crushed leg, a broken jaw, a burnt tongue and a tick-borne blood infection.

Before surgery, her blood tests and x -rays were performed, while two other camels, Kimi and Kelly, were screened as possible blood donors.

Tributors said that Chandni had been held on a special diet that includes camel milk, carrot pasta, bottle of kale bass, rice, jantar leaves and jaggery and drinking water in satisfactory quantities.

While the management characterized the operation a success, management said the next few hours remain critical.

“She is under intensive care, but her survival now depends as much on medical support as on prayers,” said a house lean representative.
