Los Angeles:
Wearing a green sweater and tan pants against a bright blue screen, Marvel Comic Book Superhero creator Stan Lee returns to La Comic Con in holographic form to meet fans of his characters, including Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor.
Fans can interact with a hologram of Lee, who died in 2018 at the age of 95, in a closed stand at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
“It was obviously sad for many of us when Stan passed by,” said Chris Demoulin, CEO of Comikaze Entertainment, who runs Los Angeles Comic Con. “In the last few years we have talked about things we might do to help expand stan’s legacy.”
About six months ago, Demoulin said he came up with the idea of creating an avatar of Lee to act as an “entrance point for fans, old and new, into the Marvel universe.”
The project was a collaboration with Proto Hologram, a company whose holographic technology has been used in malls to promote films such as. The magic and A minecraft movie, And Hyperreal, an artificial intelligence company that creates realistic looking digital people.
The hologram was trained in Stan Lee’s countless appearances on red carpets and on fan conventions. Fans who never met Lee personally can recognize him from his como appears in any live-action Marvel movie made during his lifetime.
“This avatar will never say anything that Stan didn’t say,” Demoulin said. “It will never have a view of the Marvel or the stories or Stan’s role in those who have not come directly from anything Stan has said.”
Mammoth Vision’s George Johnson said that used technological ranks to prevent Lee from saying something out of character. “We take Stan Lee’s words and import them to the model, and then we put shining on the side of it,” Johnson said, “so he doesn’t go off and talk about things that Stan wouldn’t have said.”
In a demonstration on Friday, Holographic Lee talked about his love for fan conventions. “My favorite of being on a comic convention is meeting all the amazing fans and hearing their stories about how Marvel has affected their lives,” Lee said in the late actor’s voice.
Not everyone welcomed Lee’s posthumous performance at the competition. Some comments on Reddit criticized Stan Lee experience. “Even in death, they don’t let the guy rest,” wrote a commentator, posting under the name RGCsbade. “It’s all pretty dystopic.”
