- A new report says M5 MacBook Pro is approaching a launch date
- Apple also plans new MacBook Airs and Desktop Monitors, it claims
- Next year’s M6 MacBook Pro is possibly a better effort for your cash
Apple usually releases new MacBook Pro models in October or November, but this is the case right now when the upcoming M5 MacBook Pro may not arrive until the beginning of 2026. If you have eagerly been waiting for more news on the topic, there has just been a new update that can help clarify just when we see this very contested laptop.
The latest power on newsletter from Blomberg reporter Mark Gurman contains an interesting new detail -Apple is apparently “approaching mass production” for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and two Mac screens. This may mean that there is a bumper crop of Macs and MAC accessories on the horizon.
As for the release date, Gurman says the units are intended for release “Between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year.” With October almost on us, a release date next month seems very unlikely, as the products allegedly have not even entered into mass production yet. Something between December and March can therefore be a more likely prediction.
Reading between the lines feels a 2026 launch for all these devices most likely. MacBook Air is typically a spring release (between March and May) and if both the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are apparently on similar production plans, it could mean that they will both land at similar times. It’s not a security, but it makes a lot of sense.
Waited the wait?
So do you have to order the M5 MacBook Pro when it finally touches? While the new M5 chip is expected to bring improved performance and efficiency, there has been little else rumored so far for this laptop, so the chances are that it could just be a minor update. Rumors are also thin on the ground for MacBook Air and Mac screens, so it’s hard to say what they might contain.
The more far-reaching MacBook Pro review is expected to fall later in 2026. Then the M6 MacBook Pro is intended to arrive, and it will apparently contain several significant upgrades to make it a more valuable investment.
It is jerked that these changes include an OLED screen equipped with touch screen features, a thinner design with a slender chassis and M6 chips made using a smaller 2NM process that could offer a significant uptick in performance.
If you are not desperate after upgrading to a new MacBook Pro, it is probably worth waiting until the M6 is launched by the end of 2026, which is what rumors are currently predicting. Given both the M5 and M6 models could be presented the same year, you would also not have too long to wait.
Apple has done this before, for example, launching 13-inch MacBook Pro (10th Gen Intel) in May 2020, followed by the first M1 MacBook Pro in November of that year. There is no guarantee that it will do the same with the next two MacBook Pro models, but it is not impossible if Apple delays the M5 MacBook Pro launch until the beginning of 2026.
