Giants’ John Mara says he was diagnosed with cancer

John Mara, New York Giants’ co -owner, CEO and president, announced on Monday that he was diagnosed with cancer.

The 70-year-old long-time Giants director issued a statement on social media.

“I have recently been diagnosed with cancer and have followed the treatment plan recommended by an excellent team of doctors,” Mara said.

“I feel strong and optimistic and I am obliged to see this through to a positive result. I plan to stay active with the team throughout my treatment and I am lucky to be surrounded by incredible support – personally, professional and medical.”

Mara asked for privacy while undergoing treatment.

He joined Giants in 1991 as Attorney General of the Team and was later the CEO and CEO. His father, Wellington Mara, was the owner of the team until his death in 2005.

He monitored two Giants Super Bowl titles as co-owner at Steve Tisch.

Mara is a third generation team owner in the NFL. His grandfather, Tim, founded the team in 1925. Wellington and Jack Mara took over the team in 1959 when Tim Mara died.
