- WhatsApp has announced its latest big update round
- It includes the possibility of sharing movement / live photos in the app
- There are also some new AI tools such as custom themes
WhatsApp has announced a number of upgrades to iOS and Android users that will make it much easier to share memories using the app-and also help you remember what weird named group chat you are looking for.
From the first change (revealed in WhatsApp’s blog post), it will soon be possible to share live photos and movement photos (from iOS and Android) through WhatsApp respectively.
These alternative snaps show your photo, as if it’s a live – a bit like a short gif or video – and can help you better catch a moment than you would with either a single shot or a quick clip alone.
If you are on Android, you will also have access to documents that scan so you can scan, crop, send and save documents right from the WhatsApp app. This should be convenient for your more formal chat as it cuts the need to use a completely different app to first prepare a document.
Don’t worry iPhone users, you don’t miss. You must already have documents that are scan available on your device through WhatsApp. Just go to a chat, tap the ‘+’ icon, select the document and then press the Scan document.
What chat was it again?
We’ve all been there. Your feed fills up with silly nicknames and absurd group chattitles to the point that it is actually impossible to keep track of which group is for what is under all these layers.
An example is that my old university’s flat-mate group chat is called “six, but in a French way” that has begun many years ago as just “Queensway House.”
Now I can remember this groupphat name, but if I didn’t, I would probably never find it except by manually digging through each group. Fortunately, WhatsApp adds a useful new search tool, which now, if I look at the names of people I know are in the chat, the app will show me that the group is chatting, we share.
Once you have found your group chat after election, you can take advantage of a few new AI updates with the permission of Meta AI.
You can use bot to help you generate custom chat themes for your own as part of the chattes.
Plus, when you video call someone (individually or in a group call), you can get AI to produce a unique background for you – either places you already love or somewhere brand new. You can also use these backgrounds in your snaps and the videos you take within the WhatsApp app.
Not the most game-changing update, but it sounds like a fun, so I’m on my way to Play Store right now to make sure I have the latest version of WhatsApp installed.
Meta has not shared exactly when all these features (including Live and Movement Photo -Support) roll out, but we have asked it for an estimate and will update this story when we hear back.
