Darren Waller returned the clock Monday night to help Miami Dolphins overcome the New York Jets.
The once pro bowl tight end appeared in his first match for Dolphins in the 2025 season after taking a year off football after a stint with New York Giants. He looked like his old self when he was able to cut Jets’ defense several times.
Waller caught two touchdown passes in a single game for the first time since he was with Las Vegas Raiders in December 2020. He had his first touchdown catch since October 2023 when he was still with Giants.

The first touchdown catch came in the second quarter. Tua Tagovailoa found a way to get the dolphins into the red zone thanks to a creative flip for Malik Washington and easy throw to Tirek Hill.
The second touchdown deposed a six-play, 36-yard drives in the third quarter. Tagovailoa found Waller for a 9-yard Touchdown catch.
It had taken a little too Waller to get back in game form when he had been out of the league for more than a year. But at least on Monday, the chance paid the dolphins taking on Waller.
It wasn’t all smiles for the dolphins.
Miami got a hit in the third quarter when Hill suffered a cruel knee injury. Several reports indicated that the team feared he had displaced his knee. If confirmed, it is likely that he would be out for the rest of the season.

Hill had six catches in 67 yards before leaving the game. Waller had three catches in 27 yards.
Jets tried to get back in the game.
Justin Fields needed a 4th and 1 miracle in the third quarter. He was chased around by the Dolphins defense and was able to prevent them from being tackling to find a hole and blow up through it. He spotted after a 43-yard touchdown to put some pressure on Miami.
Jets had almost a touchdown on a pass from fields to Garrett Wilson. However, Wilson was called for offensive passport interference and it negated the scoring. New York had to settle for the field target.
Wilson compensated for it later in the night with an incredible catch and narrow to keep himself in borders.

But it was frustrating scenes for Jets all night.
New York committed 13 sanctions in 101 yards along with three revenue. These sanctions ultimately destroyed any momentum that the offense would build up.
Fields was 20-of-27 with 227 passing yards and the touchdown pass to Wilson. He also led the team with 81 rushing yards.
Wilson ended with six catches in 82 yards.
