Islamabad:
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated on Monday that the deadline for filing tax returns for the tax year 2025 will not be expanded beyond September 30 (Tuesday), as opposed to media reports.
In a statement, the board said it had noticed non -verified reports circulating on various media platforms that claimed that the deadline for filing tax returns would be extended. It observed that some elements also tried to connect this perceived extension to the recent floods.
“The Board of Directors categorically clarifies that these reports are false, baseless and misleading,” the statement states, adding that the vast majority of taxpayers reside in areas not affected by floods and have had ample time to perform their national obligation to lodge returns.
FBR also rejected reports suggesting that its online tax filing system, Iris, has subsided and denoted them unfounded. “Iris is fully operational and works smoothly,” the board said, noting that taxpayers can easily submit their returns using the new, simplified tax return.
The Board of Directors also warned the taxpayer that failure to submit returns on the due date will result in the status of late files and sanctions under the law.
It called on all eligible taxpayers to act responsibly and file their tax return with accuracy and honesty before the deadline 30 September 2025 to avoid legal consequences.
In the event of extreme difficulty, taxpayers may use the extension of returns up to 15 days with payment of proper taxes by September 30 September subject to approval of the relevant committee under the law.
