- Microsoft launches new AI agents to run the future of “Vibe Working”
- Agent Mode and Office Agent will do your hard work for you
- Only US users get office agent from launch
Inspired by vibe coding (where AI generates the code and developers FINETUNE IT), Microsoft has lifted the wrapping of what it calls “vibe working” for Office apps.
The technology giant has brought a brand new agent state to excel and the word to help office workers increase and speed out output as well as a dedicated office agent for copilot chat, which later comes to PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
With the new agents, users can transform requests into “high quality … documents, spreadsheets and presentations.”
Microsoft gives office users new AI agents to work with
From Excel, Microsoft adds GPT-5-Reasoning models to break down complex spreadsheet assignments step by step. The company acknowledged that the software’s most powerful features are only available to expert users, but with agent mode users can generate output, evaluate results and solve problems.
In the example given on the company’s blog posts, we see Agent Mode that decides formulas, produces new sheets and creates data visualizations from a simple prompt.
Agent mode for Word Drafts and Refining Work, manages details and the use of polished formatting to create the ultimate finished piece from user prompts, making it the highlight of the mood to work.
However, it is not only beneficial for working because it also acts as an author’s sub -editor: “Can you clean up this document? Title -case for section headings, branding updates according to ‘/latest fire direction lines’ e email and italicper all external partner mentions,” reads the example.
The second part of Microsoft’s message, Office Agent in Copilot Chat, is taking a newer approach to AI tools. Instead of using GPT models, as it has done in the past, Microsoft begins to use alternative models. This feature works with Anthropics Claude models.
Office Agent will end the entire process from conducting deep research to the production of useful content.
Agent mode for Word and Excel on the web is rolled out via the Frontier program now, with Desktop Support coming “Soon.”
Office agent also rolls out, but only in the US and for web apps.
