- Nothing OS 4.0 has now entered open beta
- Nothing Phone 3A and 3A Pro yet can’t get it
- Features vary depending on your handset but the highlights include an AI -use dashboard and AI -Widgets
After his message a few weeks ago, nothing 4.0 – which is not on Android 16 – now landed in open beta, so if you have one of four no phones, you can download it in your free time (it’s not yet available for each handset).
Right now, the Nothing OS 4.0 Open Beta is available for Nothing Phone 3, Nothing Phone 2, Nothing Phone 2A and Nothing Phone 2A Plus. That leaves Nothing Phone 3A and Nothing Phone 3A Pro Out, which is weird as they are newer than some of these handsets, but nothing has said the beta will come to these phones sometime in October.
Assuming you can get the beta, the actual features you get will also vary depending on your phone.
With Nothing Phone 3 you get access to an ‘AI -use dashboard’ that provides greater transparency in relation to what AI is doing and how it uses your data. You also get various bug fixes and performance improvements, including improved camera rhotability.
If you are using a Nothing Phone 2, A Nothing Phone 2A or A Nothing Phone 2A Plus, you get the ‘Stretch’ camera that adds rich shadows and expanded highlights to photos. You also get system-level app optimizations to improve start-up speeds.
Updates for everyone
Then there are some features that apparently come to all phones in the beta, including pop-up view to two fluid icons (so you can switch between apps faster), two new lock screen surfaces, 2×2 fast settings tile support and an extra dark state.
Exciting you can also now create widgets using AI, with Nothing Phone 3, which supports up to six of these widgets, while the other models may have up to two driving at once.
To get the beta, you need to download beta updates HUB .APK on your phone, and then install it from your downloads folder. When you’re done, go to Settings> System> Nothing Beta Hub and press ‘Join Beta’. Once you have signed up, just press ‘Go to Update’.
Of course, the same warnings here apply to all betas – this software is unfinished and may not be stable, so if you are not busy trying the new additions, you can always wait for the finished release.
